Welcome Jon, who has joined us after completing his thesis “Microwave induced optical nonlinearities in cuprous oxide” at Durham University. He will be working on our electromechanics projects.
Optical Levitation at the Royal Society
Yanhui & Molly from our team supported speakers from UCL with our Quantum Workshop optical tweezer demo at the Royal Society for the event: “Unlocking the Secrets of Dark Matter“.
Welcome to Joe Kelly
Welcome Joe, who has joined us after completing his thesis “Propagation Effects within an Extended Optical Amplifier and Their Impact on the Spatial Distribution of Squeezing: Towards Quantum Imaging” at the University of Birmingham. He will be leading our industry funded sensing project.
New paper in Nature Communications!
Our collaborative work with Xiaohao Xu (Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, China) and Paco Rodriguez-Fortuno‘s group (King’s) has just been published in Nature Communications. We generated and probed an entirely new structure of light:
Structured transverse orbital angular momentum probed by a levitated optomechanical sensor

Industry funded postdoc position
We are looking for an experienced candidate to work on an industry funded project on levitated sensors. For details and apply head to this page: Postdoctoral-research-associate-in-levitated-sensors-industry-collaboration
PostDoc position in Electromechanics available
We are looking for a PostDoc to join our levitated electromechanics team. You will explore device development, multi-particle cooling, and statistical physics. We are open to people who haven’t worked in the field before, go to this page for more details and to apply.
James attends Generation Y meeting

I was thrilled to attend the second Generation Y meeting. This is an incredibly useful networking meeting between early-career group leaders in the quantum sciences. Many vital discussions on group-building, hiring, funding, negotiation and yes, even AI.
James S talks at the DPG- Frühjahrstagung meeting

Well done to James S, who presented “Structured transverse orbital angular momentum probed by a levitated optomechanical sensor” at the DPG-Spring Meeting. The work was well received, and he gave a great talk.
PhD available in our group
We have a position available to start in October 2023. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with questions! Details here.
Welcome Zhenan

We’re very happy to welcome Zhenan Chen to the group as a PhD student. He will be working on our levitated quantum optomechanics experiments.
